Google to Add ‘Buy’ Button to Search Results

Google is rolling out one after another update in their search result page. This time they are going to introduce a “buy” button in their search result page which will allow the user to purchase a product directly from Google result page.

This button will initially be available only in mobile search and will display with paid search ads. The organic results will not be affected by it.

This update is different from “Google Shopping” or “Google Checkout. Instead, it lets the user buy a product on Google.com. With this buy button, Google will not remain only a referral search engine but convert into an e-commerce transactional website.

When users will click a buy button, they will be redirected to a landing pages specifically designed by Google where the details of the product such as size and color will be mentioned. A purchase will be done on the same page, but order process and shipping will be handled by retailers.

This step of Google has created buzz around the retailers as they are concerned about Google access to the valuable data and this will also lose their brand identity. Google is a trusted brand which will make customers a purchase from search result rather than visiting retailer’s website.

Google has also posed a threat to the already established online retail giants like eBay and Amazon. Unlike them, Google will be paid by the retailers through ad campaigns on per-ad-click basis.

Google will also offer several payment options to customers and let them save the details for future. This payment information will not be provided to the retailers.
